SATNAC Industry Solutions Challenge

Telkom topic · SignalMyth

The challenge asked for a faster way to predict LTE coverage than a seven-to-nine-day ray-tracing run. Our entry, SignalMyth, is an XGBoost surrogate trained on real SRTM terrain and ESA WorldCover clutter for Durban. On a held-out set it reached 2.63 dB RMSE and an R² of 0.958, at roughly 18× the speed of the reference model. It won the Telkom topic and was also named Innovator of the Year, the award given to the best solution in the challenge.

JCI hackathon

Junior Chamber International

Second place in a team hackathon run by Junior Chamber International. The format was a short build window followed by a live pitch, so the work was as much about scoping a solution that could actually be finished as it was about the code.

FNB App Academy

FNB · IT varsity

Completed the FNB App Academy programme in Full Stack Development, earning 32 credits. The course covered the application stack from the front end through to data and deployment, and it is the reason the web side of these projects is not an afterthought.

The work behind the awards.

SignalMyth, Dr Kiosk and the rest of the projects are written up as case studies, with the constraints, the measurements and the parts that did not work.
